Chef Anees Khan graduated from IHM Chennai in 1997. Having worked for three years at The Leela Mumbai & Leela Goa, he shifted to The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Canada, JW Marriott Cairo, Egypt, Hyatt Regency, Mumbai, Kilimanjaro Kempinski Dar Es Salaam Tanzania & Six Senses Zighi Bay, Oman to name a few as their Executive Pastry Chef.

Having trained under Swiss master pastry chefs, he has won medals at the first Indian culinary competition held in the country, representing Hyatt hotels. These stint brought along immense exposure as he worked with chefs of 35 nationalities. Among the famous patrons of his creations here were President Bush, Rowan Atkinson, Robin Williams, Hollywood & Bollywood stars and international sportsmen. Chef Anees has also undergone Advanced Gelato Training at Bolognia, Italy.

In 2010, he returned to Mumbai to pursue his dream of setting up his own patisserie & boulangerie. He set up Star Anise Fine Foods & Leisure Pvt. Ltd. (SAFFL), bringing to it his 15 years of culinary experience working for several International five star hotels across the world. Star Anise central kitchen is located at Kurla with close proximity to BKC and other corporate parks. SAFFL has been supplying modern desserts, artisanal breads and lip smacking savories to Mumbai’s top cafes, banquet halls & corporate houses.

The company has now opened the very successful Star Anise cafes in large corporate parks, which serves exciting healthy sandwiches, salads, savouries, desserts, waffles, pancakes and beverages etc. The company has a staffing of 55 personnel under its payroll and is an ideal place for hotel management trainees wiling to learn the intricacies of baking and pastry making.

Articles and inputs by Chef Anees have made it to several prominent newspaper, magazines online portals and TV shows to name a few. Chef Anees was also awarded the “Chef Entrepreneur Award 2018” by WICA (Western Indian Culinary Association) for outstanding contribution to F&B entrepreneurship and showing the path to many prospective entrepreneurs. He is also a regular visiting judge in various catering colleges and food exhibitions imparting the nitty-gritty of baking and pastry making to young students and professionals.
